On Thursday, March 4th at 20:14hrs, Station 11 was dispatched to a reported head-on motor vehicle accident on South Highway A1A near the Volusia County Line. Engine 11 responded and obtained further information stating there were 2 vehicles head-on and a trailer involved. Engine 11 requested Volusia County Air One be placed on standby due to the possible nature of the call. Engine 11 arrived on scene at 20:18hrs with 1 trailer off the side of the road and 2 vehicles approximately a mile further. Engine 11 continued to the two vehicles and observed both vehicles upright with major front end damage and possible entrapment. Engine 11 established "A1A Command" and switched to TAC 3 per FCSO Dispatch.

Upon further investigation, it was determined the driver of one of the vehicles was entrapped and needed to be extricated. Volusia County Engine 14 arrived on scene as Engine 11's crew were setting up the TNT Tools for a door pop. VCFS Engine 14's Paramedic evaluated the entrapped patient and advised the patient would be a Trauma Alert. EVAC Ambulance arrived on scene to assist with patient care and transport. Engine 11 began extrication at 20:21hrs and had patient access at 20:24hrs. Flagler County Rescue 11 and other personnel from VCFS Engine 14 assisted with removing the patient from the other vehicle involved who was not entrapped. EVAC Ambulance transported both patients. The Trauma Alert patient was transported to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach and the other patient was transported to an unknown facility. Flagler Beach Fire Police shut down A1A South bound during operations while VCFS Fire Police shut down North bound A1A.

Thanks to excellent team work and communication, both crews worked seamlessly together to get the job done. Many thanks to Volusia County Engine 14 and VCFS Fire Police for their assistance as well as Flagler County Dispatch.
