On Monday, November 30th at approximately 12:23hrs, Station 11 (C-Shift) received a phone call into the station regarding a hydraulic fluid spill in the 3600 block of South Central Avenue. E-11 responded and arrived on scene with a Flagler Beach Sanitation Recycle truck that had a ruptured hydraulic fluid line. Upon further investigation, it was determined the truck had spilled approximately 35 gallons of hydraulic fluid over an area approximately 200ft x 100ft. The high-pressure line sent the fluid approximately 50ft in the air upon rupturing. High easterly winds helped the fluid cover a large area including multiple vehicles, a condominium swimming pool and lawn. E-11 applied absorbent pads to the large puddles and contacted Flagler County EM1 to notify State Warning Point and DEP. Flagler Beach Sanitation Supervisor made contact with SWS Environmental Services for cleanup. E-11 remained on scene to monitor cleanup operations and to ensure proper containment. E-11 remained on scene until approximately 17:21hrs when cleanup operations were completed. E-11 returned the following day with SWS for a checkup on the situation.
